Comprehensive 2.5 day course:
All the information you need to understand the gourmet mushroom industry! This includes a course manual and five selected gourmet mushroom strains for participant’s personal use. The cultures alone have a value in excess of R 5000.00 (approximately US$ 550.00). The course is conducted personally by Dr W. Adriaan Smit, who will discuss indoor/outdoor cultivation of Enoki, Nameko, Buna-shimeji, Shiitake, King Oyster, Tree Oyster, Phoenix Oyster, Golden Oyster, Pink Oyster, Straw Mushrooms and many other gourmet / medicinal mushrooms in detail.

Total course fee per person:
R 6 530.00 (approximately US$ 715.00) including course manual, dinner (Wednesday), lunch (Thursday and Friday) and all refreshments.

*Adriaan is a well-known international researcher and gourmet mushroom consultant who completed studies on gourmet and medicinal mushroom cultivation in the UK and the Netherlands. He also visited leading gourmet mushroom research centres and private practices in Sweden, Canada, China (which produces more than 70% of the world’s gourmet mushrooms) and the USA. Adriaan is founder of the Mushroom Research Centre at ARC Infruitec-Nietvoorbij, Stellenbosch, the only research centre in South Africa dealing with the identification and research of gourmet and medicinal mushroom species. He organised and chaired the 1st Educational Gourmet and Medicinal Mushroom Conference, Franschhoek, and was the only South African to present a paper at the 1st International Conference on Medicinal Mushrooms. As invited guest speaker, he addressed an international audience at World Fungi 2007, Spain. Adriaan has been involved in teaching and research into various aspects of gourmet and medicinal mushroom science, with the emphasis on cultivation technique evaluations (simple and / or state-of-the-art), indigenous substrate formulations and the development of mushroom-based nutraceuticals / dietary supplements e.g. health wines. Adriaan was appointed as honorary lecturer / science advisor at the South African Gourmet Mushroom Academy during January 2005, and as managing director in April 2007.
